South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
() continued...
Ms. Jones opened the Public Hearing for PUBLIC HEARING ON RESOLUTION N0.2350
whoever wished to be heard concerning
ResolutionNo. 2350.
Marguerite Taylor: I think passing this
resolution (Resolution No. 2350) is vital to
the over $250,000,000 that's being put into
the northeast neighborhood. We ask that you
pass this resolution.
Greg Hakanen: I'm with the University of
Notre Dame. This appears to meet all of the
requirements of the mission of this board. It
eliminates blight, encourages new
development, expands the tax base, and
creates new jobs. So we ask your support for
this initiative.
Mayor Luecke: I think this is an exciting
opportunity for us, in conjunction with the
master plan for redevelopment of the
Northeast Neighborhood, the creation of the
residential TIF really allows us to emphasize
keeping this neighborhood a diverse
neighborhood, diverse in so many different
ways, but particularly in economic ways as
well. By doing this it helps with
infrastructure that will support the new
houses in the Triangle area, 30% of which
are guaranteed to be developed for moderate,
affordable home ownership. That's an
important consideration for the neighborhood
and an important consideration for
development in the City of South Bend. I
encourage your positive vote on this.
15
