Personnel and Finance Committee <br />2006 South Bend Common Council <br />The December 11, 2006 meeting of the Personnel and Finance Committee of the South <br />Bend Common Council was called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member <br />Charlotte D. Pfeifer at 3:05 p.m. in the Council's Informal Meeting Room. <br />Persons in attendance included Council Members Pfeifer, Kelly, Varner, Kuspa, Rouse, <br />White, Dieter and Puzzello; Citizen Member Edward Talley, Citizen Member Martha <br />Lewis, City Clerk John Vaorde, Community and Economic Development Director <br />Sharon Kendall, Mrs. Kopola, City Controller M. Catherine Fanello, Public Works <br />Director Gary Gilot, Direc#or of Financial Services Rahman Johnson, Richard <br />Nussbaum, Rick Walls, Steve Hatchell, Jamie Loo of the South Bend Tribune and <br />Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br />Bill No, 65-06 Appropriation from Fund # 377 Collects Football Hall of Fame <br />Council Member Pfeifer called upon Mayor Luecke. <br />Mayor Luecke introduced Steven J. Hatchel, the new President of the National Football <br />Foundation, currently located at 22 Maple Avenue, Morris Tawn, New Jersey 07960- <br />5215. He noted that there have been a number of very productive committee <br />meetings. It is his continuing hope to bring dawn the monies for operations of the Hall; <br />to continue to build on the partnership with the NFF; and to bring about other resources <br />for funding. The Mayor noted that "what is past is past" and a good working partnership <br />is moving forward. <br />Mr, Hatchel stated that he appreciated the opportunity to visit and values the Hall of <br />Fame being located in South Bend. He noted that Chairperson Ron Johnson is unable <br />to be here today but hopeful that there will be opportunities to meet. <br />An introduction of those present then took place. <br />Mr. Hatchel stated that on January 5, 2005 he was brought an the Board and had lived <br />in Dallas. He was the former Commissioner of the Southwest Conference. The NFF <br />will be sixty (60) years old next year and it needs to be "boarder to boarder and coast to <br />coast". Moving from the northeast to Dallas in January of 2007 will bring the <br />headquarters closer to the west coast the southeast and the Midwest. He noted that <br />there are 120 chapter located in 47 states. There are currently only #wo (2) chapters <br />located in Texas. He believes that they "must be more relevant". <br />In response to a question from Council Member Puzzello, Mr. Hatchel stated that there <br />are "no intentions to move the Hal! from South Bend". <br />
