Councilmember Gavin Ferlic, Chair of the Community Investment Committee, reported that they
met this afternoon and send these bills forward with a favorable recommendation.
Dan Buckenmeyer, Director of Business Development, the Department of Community
Investment, with offices on the 141h Floor of the County-City Building, South Bend, IN, served
as the presenter of this bill. Mr. Buckenmeyer stated, Tri-Pac is a forty-five (45)plus year old
company, presently located in Michigan. They are planning to relocate to South Bend in the area
near Nimtz Road and Kenmore. We're very excited to bring this business into South Bend. We
expect to create many new jobs and a lot of growth and investment as a result. In order to assist
Tri-Pac with a soft landing in their new South Bend home, we propose two (2)tax abatements—
the significant multimillion dollar investment they are making to bring their business here. A real
property tax abatement of seven(7) years on a minimum $1,000,000 investment on simply
improvements to the building they're going to purchase, during which period the petitioner will
save about$84,000 in taxes but will still pay a total of approximately $314,000 in real property
taxes. And then a personal property tax abatement of five (5) years on a$1,500,000 minimum
investment in equipment at this new location, during which the petitioner will save about
$17,000 and will still pay a total of about$4,000 in personal property taxes. We respectfully ask
the Council to approve these abatements. I just want to point out again, this specifies a target
investment of, combined, about $2,500,00, and target jobs of about sixty(60),but I know Mr.
