358 <br />Special Meeting <br />July 20, 1955 <br />A special meeting of the Board of Public Works was held at 10:30 A. M. Wednesday, <br />July 20, 1955, for the purpose of considering Contract Supplement comprising paving <br />of Riverside Drive between Lathrop Avenue and the Sewage Treatment Plant Site. All <br />members were present. <br />After careful examination, <br />Supplement No. 4, Contract 5-A, <br />August 31, 1955- <br />the Board approved plans and specifications for Contract <br />Paschen Contractors, Inc. with completion date as <br />There being no further business to come before this meeting, <br />at 11:00 A. R. W. <br />Whitesell and W. A. Gebhardt, repre- <br />senting Bendix Aviation Corporation <br />in the matter <br />of reduction of noise created by their <br />jet engine testing operations. Attorney <br />Whitesell <br />assured the Board of Bendix being <br />fully cognizant of the problem, and <br />stated a sound <br />engineer will arrive at their plant <br />Thursday of this week to make further <br />study"of the <br />possibilities of reducing the excessiv6 <br />noise connected with these engineering operations. <br />Engineer Gebhardt presented to the <br />Board figures compiled from the actual <br />test reports, <br />which refuted verbal report made <br />to the Board at the previous regular <br />meeting meeting, and proved these engines are <br />operated in testing a very limited number of hours <br />over a period of a month, and a total <br />of less than seven hours in a month <br />"at take -off", <br />which is that portion of the test <br />which creates the excessive noise and <br />vibrations -of which the Board received verbal <br />complaint. <br />• <br />• <br />0 <br />The Board asked that Bendix furnish a report of the findings, following study made <br />by the sound engineer, to provide such satisfaction as may be possible to the residents <br />of the area adjacent to the planets testing cells. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: • <br />j <br />H.
