401 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />AUGUST 30, 1982 <br />APPROVE REOUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS - SALE OF ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director of the Neighborhood Code Enforce- <br />ment Office, requested permission to advertise for the sale of <br />approximately 27 abandoned vehicles which were being stored at <br />the Hurwich Iron Impoundment Lot, 1610 Circle Avenue. Sixteen <br />of the abandoned vehicles were valued at over '110.00, and the <br />remaining vehicles valued at under $100.00. It was noted that <br />all vehicles had been stored more than the required 30 days, <br />identification checks had been run for auto theft, and the <br />owners and lien holders notified. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the request <br />was approved, with the opening of sealed bids to take place on <br />September 13, 1982. <br />APPROVE ENTRA14CE CANOPY AMERICANA HOTEL <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that City Awning of South Bend had requested <br />Board approval of the erection of an entrance canopy at the <br />Americana Hotel, 213 West Washington Street. Following a review <br />of the request by the Building Department and the Bureau of <br />(� Traffic and Lighting it had been determined that the front legs <br />for the canopy should be not more than three feet in from the <br />existing curb line rather than seven feet as requested. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, <br />the request as submitted by City Awning of South Bend was approved, <br />provided the front legs of the canopy were placed not more than <br />three feet in from the curb line, and subject to the filing in <br />the Board office of a Certificate of Fire Retardancy. <br />APPROVE STREET CLOSURES FOR LABOR DAY PARADE <br />Mr_. Leszczynski advised that, following a meeting with the <br />coordinators of the Discovery Hall Labor Day Parade and rep- <br />resentatives from the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the <br />Police Traffic Division, the following street closures were <br />recommended for September 6, 1982: <br />William from Washington to Wayne <br />Jefferson from Taylor to St. Joseph <br />Main from Washington to Wayne <br />Lafayette from Washington to Wayne <br />Also recommended was the placement of "no parking" signs on <br />Jefferson from Taylor to St..Joseph and on William from Washington <br />to Wayne. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. <br />Hill and carried, the above closures and placement of signs were <br />approved as recommended. <br />APPROVE INTERSECTION FUND SOLICITATION REQUEST <br />LETTER CARRIERS ASSOCIATION <br />Mr. Leszczynski stated that the Letter Carriers Association had <br />conducted an intersection fund solicitation on July 11, 1982, in <br />order to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association; <br />however, their goal had not been reached and, because their <br />charitable solicitations permit expired on August 31, 1982, they <br />desired to hold one more solicitation on August 29th at the Miami <br />and Ireland intersection. It was noted that the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting had reviewed the request and had no objection <br />to the solicitation provided the required Hold Harmless Agreement <br />was submitted and the Board's previously adopted guidelines for <br />such solicitations were followed. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was <br />approved retroactive to August 29, 1982. <br />
