Parmerlee, Clerk <br />APPROVE REQUEST <br />VEHICLES AND MIS <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS <br />s/John E. Leszczynski <br />s/Katherine G. Barnard <br />CT AUCTION TO DISPO: <br />LETE <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. John E. Leszczynski, Director, <br />Public Works, requested permission to dispose of approximately <br />seventy (70) vehicles and other miscellaneous items, said <br />vehicles and miscellaneous items declared obsolete pursuant to <br />Resolution No. 18-1986, at an auction to be held on Saturday, <br />September 6, 1986. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded <br />by Mr. Leszczynski and carried, the request to conduct a public <br />auction to dispose of said vehicles and miscellaneous items was <br />approved. <br />APPROVE REQUEST FOR PERMISSION TO EXERCISE EMERGENCY POWERS OF <br />THE BOARD TO FACILITATE REPAIRS TO BOWMAN CREEK BRIDGE CROSSING <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. John E. Leszczynski, Director, <br />Public Works, requested permission to exercise emergency powers <br />of the Board of Public Works to facilitate repairs to the Bowman <br />Creek Bridge crossing at St. Joseph and Fox Streets. The <br />structure deteriorated to the point of caving in requiring <br />blocking of the street and necessitating emergency repairs. Mr. <br />Leszczynski advised that he will secure three (3) quotes on this <br />repair project and select the low quote. He anticipated that the <br />completion of the project will take sixty (60) days with the <br />intersection remaining closed during that time. In response to <br />questions from the news media, Mr. Leszczynski advised that the <br />bridge is a concrete bridge and is at least fifty (50) years old. <br />Therefore, upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski, and carried, Mr. Leszczynski was authorized to <br />secure quotes and proceed with this repair project. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS - SALE OF <br />ABANDONED VEHICLES <br />Ms. Katherine Barnard, Director, Department of Code Enforcement, <br />.requested permission to advertise for the sale of approximately <br />twenty (20) abandoned vehicles, which are being stored at Steve & <br />Gene's Auto & Truck Salvage and Repair, 3109 South Gertrude <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana. It was noted that all vehicles have <br />been stored more than fifteen (15) days, identification checks <br />had been run for auto theft and the owners and lienholders <br />notified. Upon a motion made by Ms. Barnard, seconded by Mr. <br />Leszczynski and carried, the above request was approved and a <br />date of August 26, 1986 was established for the receiving and <br />opening of sealed bids. <br />APPROVE REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR RECEIPT OF BIDS AND APPROVE <br />TITLE SHEET - MICHIGAN STREET IMPROVEMENTS PHASE II PROJECT <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. Neil Shanahan, Manager, Bureau of <br />Public Construction, requested permission to advertise for the <br />receipt of bids for the Michigan Street Improvements Phase II <br />Project which entails the construction of concrete pavement and <br />brick and concrete sidewalks in the 100 blocks of North and South <br />Michigan Street. Mr. Leszczynski advised that this project is <br />proceeding as the result of the recent successful sale of tax <br />increment bonds. He further advised that it is anticipated that <br />the cost of this project will be $700,000.00. Additionally <br />
