168 REGULAR MEETING JUNE 9, 1987 Certificate of Insurance have been submitted and are in order. Therefore, Mr. Mathews recommends approval of the request to move the above referred to houses. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the recommendation was accepted and the request approved. SPECIAL RECOGNITION TO WILLIAM SMURR - DIRECTOR OF WATER WORKS Mayor Roger 0. Parent was present and indicated that he would like to take this opportunity to recognize Mr. William Smurr, Director of the Water Works, who has been selected as the recipient of the 1987 Fuller Award. This award is presented annually on the recommendation of the Indiana State Selection Committee of the American Water Works Association to one member for distinguished service in the Water Supply Field. Mayor Parent stated that Mr. Smurr has been an employee of the City of South Bend Water Works for thirty-three years having started as a hydrant flusher in 1954 and currently as Director of Utilities. Mayor Parent presented to Mr. Smurr a key to the City. He was then congratulated by members of the Board of Public Works, as well as the members of the Water Works Board who were present at the Board of Public Works meeting today. A reception in the Mayor's conference room followed this recognition ceremony. ST OF THE HILLTOP SUNRISE SERVICE TO CES AND CLOSE WEST WASHINGTON STREET 'ONDUCT SUN 21. 1987 - Rev. L. James Perry, Co -Chairman and Mrs. Alberta Johnson, Co -Chairperson, The Hilltop Sunrise Service, 139 South Camden Street, South Bend, Indiana, advised that each year at 6:00 a.m. on the third Sunday in June, the Hilltop Sunrise Service has been held on the hill in LaSalle Park. The Hilltop Sunrise Service is therefore requesting permission to barricade West Washington Street between Liberty and Dundee Streets during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on June 21, 1987 and also to have a police officer on hand to control the traffic. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation. REQUEST OF UNITED RELIGIOUS COMMUNITY TO CONDUCT CROP WALK - OCTOBER 11, 1987 - REFERRED Ms. Jeanette S. Cox, 1015 Patty Lane, South Bend, Indiana and Ms. Kathy Sellers, 16339 Chickory Court, Granger, Indiana, on behalf of the United Religious Community of Saint Joseph County, requested approval to conduct the annual CROP Walk on Sunday, October 11, 1987. Ms. Cox and Ms. Sellers advised that approximately one thousand (1,000) individuals will participate in the 10K Walk which will utilize a route which they submitted and which begins at St. Joseph High School. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was referred to the appropriate City departments and bureaus for review and recommendation.
