REGULAR MEETING <br />May 9, 2016 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana met in the <br />Council Chambers of the County -City Building on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. The <br />meeting was called to order by Council President Tim Scott and the Invocation was given by <br />Council Vice President Oliver Davis and Pledge to the Flag was given. <br />ROLL CALL <br />COUNCIL MEMBERS: <br />Tim Scott <br />Regina Williams- Preston <br />Randy Kelly <br />Josephine Broden <br />Dr. David Varner <br />Oliver J. Councilmember Gavin Ferlic seconded the motion <br />which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br />There was no special business. <br />REPORTS OF CITY OFFICES <br />Representing the City administration will be Mayor Pete Buttigieg. The Mayor thanked the <br />Council for giving him the opportunity to offer reports from the Administration. Events last <br />week in the City highlighted the work that South Bend is doing on strengthening our inclusion, <br />which is one of the five (5) City values that the Administration promotes. Christina Brooks has <br />been hired as the new Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the City. Mayor Buttigieg thanked the <br />Council for providing the funds for that position, it is the responsibility of all of us to use the <br />help and expertise Ms. Brooks can provide to become a model of diversity and inclusion <br />throughout the region. Occasionally some of our more capable employees in the City are picked <br />off by our largest employer, Notre Dame, and it was with mischievous pleasure that the City <br />returned the favor this time. Ms. Brooks served in a similar role at Notre Dame and the Mayor <br />
