7 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 26, 1990 <br />Mr. Lang advised that his burner has more safety features and <br />also stated that the bid specifications were written by <br />Perkin-Elmer. Mr. Leszczynski advised Mr. Lang that he is <br />welcome to a copy of the recommendation the Board has received. <br />Therefore, Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the bid of <br />Perkin-Elmer in the amount of $42,290.00 for the above referred <br />to equipment be accepted and awarded. Mrs. DeClercq seconded the <br />motion which carried. <br />APPROVE REQUEST OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS TO CHANGE STREET NAME IN <br />OBSERVANCE OF ST. PATRICK'S DAY - MARCH 16, 1990 <br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Ms. Mikki Dobski, Director, Office <br />of Community Affairs, requested approval for a street name <br />changing on Friday, March 16, 1990 at 5:15 p.m. in honor of St. <br />Patrick's Day. She noted that it is requested that St. Joseph <br />Street, at Jefferson Boulevard, be changed to read "St. Patrick's <br />Boulevard." Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by <br />Mrs. DeClercq and carried, the request was approved. <br />REQUEST OF VFW TO CONDUCT POPPY DAY SALES - MAY 18-19, 1990 - <br />PRrRPPRn <br />In a letter to the Board, Mr. George Grenert, Quartermaster, <br />Mr. Henry Schmucker, Poppy Chairman, and Mr. Lowell Spalding, <br />Commander, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., South Bend Post <br />No. 1167, 1047 Lincolnway East, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission to hold the annual Poppy Day sales on the sidewalks <br />throughout the City of South Bend on Friday and Saturday, May <br />18-19, 1990. The gentlemen noted that the purpose of the sale is <br />for securing funds for welfare and relief work among widows and <br />orphans of veterans and further noted that the means of the sale <br />will be canister sales of poppies. Mr. Leszczynski made a motion <br />that the request be referred to the appropriate City departments <br />and bureaus for review and recommendation. Mrs. DeClercq <br />seconded the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST FOR DESIGNATED HANDICAPPED PARKING SPACE AT 1528 KEMBLE <br />STREET - REFERRED <br />In a letter to the Board, Ms. Rochelle P. Fuller, 1528 Kemble <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, on behalf of her father-in-law Mr. <br />Robert Taylor, requested that the parking space in front of Mr. <br />Taylor's residence at 1528 Kemble Street be designated as a <br />handicapped parking space. Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that <br />the request be referred to the appropriate City departments and <br />bureaus for review and recommendation. Ms. Humphreys seconded <br />the motion which carried. <br />REQUEST OF <br />CRIME STOPPERS TO CONDUCT 1990 MOONLIGHT WALK AGAINST <br />CRIME - JUNE 10, 1990 <br />- REFERRED <br />Mr. Dan L. <br />Craft, Walk <br />Director, South Bend Area Crime Stoppers, <br />Inc., 701 <br />West Sample <br />Street, South Bend, Indiana, requested <br />permission <br />which will <br />to conduct <br />raise funds <br />the 1990 Moonlight Walk Against Crime, <br />for Crime Stoppers, on Sunday, June 10, <br />1990 with <br />registration <br />beginning at 6:00 p.m. and all walkers <br />beginning <br />at 7:00 p.m. <br />Mr. Craft indicated that it is anticipated that three hundred <br />(300) individuals will participate in the Walk which will proceed <br />on the following route: <br />Start at Coveleski Stadium, proceed on South Street east <br />to Michigan, north on Michigan to Western, east on Western <br />Avenue to Jefferson Boulevard, Jefferson Boulevard east <br />to Ironwood, Ironwood south to Mishawaka Avenue, West on <br />Mishawaka Avenue to Farmer's Market, west across Beyer <br />Street bridge, west on Lincolnway East to Michigan, and <br />south on Michigan to South Street and Stadium. <br />
