019 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />JANUARY 4, 1994 <br />AWARD BID - TWO HUNDRED (200) MORE OR LESS SETS OF FIREFIGHTER <br />PROTECTIVE CLOTHING INCLUDING COATS PANTS AND SUSPENDERS <br />Fire Chief Luther Taylor advised that on December 6, 1993, the <br />Board opened bids for protective clothing for members of the South <br />Bend Fire Department. After reviewing the bids, the Department <br />recommends that the Board award the bid of A.A.A. Fire Equipment, <br />23002 Gardena Place, Elkhart, Indiana, in the amount of <br />$128,923.12 which includes a two per cent (2%) discount when paid <br />within twenty (20) days of delivery. Fire Chief Taylor noted that <br />this bid award includes protective coats and pants, suspenders, <br />radio pockets and PBI hoods. The total number of protective <br />clothing to be purchased by the Department is two hundred fifteen <br />(215) sets. Mr. Leszczynski made a motion that the recommendation <br />be accepted and the bid be awarded. Mr. Caldwell seconded the <br />motion which carried. <br />AWARD _BID _- DEMOLITION - 1424 SOUTH LAFAYETTE (LOT #10 <br />In a Memorandum to the Board, Mr. Carl P. Littrell, Director, <br />Division of Engineering, advised that on December 20, 1993, the <br />Board opened seven (7) bids for demolition of buildings in the <br />Studebaker Corridor. Mr. Littrell noted that he has reviewed the <br />bids and found the amounts correct as read at the meeting. <br />Therefore, Mr. Littrell recommended that the Board award the low <br />bid of W.A. Bailey Construction, 17051 Millpond Trail, Plymouth, <br />Indiana, in the amount of $9,800.00. Mr. Caldwell made a motion <br />that the recommendation be accepted and the bid be awarded. Mr. <br />Leszczynski seconded the motion which carried. <br />FAVORABLE RECOMMENDATION - VACATION PETITION - 1ST E/W ALLEY N. OF <br />EAST WASHINGTON AVENUE <br />Mr. Leszczynski indicated that the Common Council has forwarded to <br />the Board a Vacation Petition as submitted by Joseph L. Amaral, <br />Attorney for Petitioners, Hammerschmidt, Amaral & Jonas, 224 West <br />Jefferson Boulevard, South Bend, Indiana, to vacate the following <br />alley: <br />The alley to be vacated is described as the first <br />east/west alley north of E. Washington Avenue from the <br />east right-of-way line of N. Frances Street to the west <br />right-of-way line of the first north/south alley east of <br />N. Frances Street for a distance of approximately 113 <br />feet and a width of approximately 14 feet. The alley is <br />located at Cottrel's addition to the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana. <br />It is noted that the Petitioners are Troeger, Garcia and Ansari <br />Building Partnership, 922 West Colfax, South Bend, Indiana and <br />Duggan Shaffer, 120 North Francis Street, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Mr. Bill Attibey Pursell, representing Neighborhood Housing <br />Services, 803 North Notre Dame Avenue, South Bend, Indiana, and <br />the Northeast Neighborhood Council was present and addressed the <br />Board concerning this proposed vacation. Mr. Pursell stated that <br />the area in question is primarily residential and they are <br />concerned at this time that the alley not be vacated until the <br />Petitioner receives approval of their rezoning from residential to <br />commercial. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised Mr. Pursell that the Board does not look <br />at whether or not the alley would cause an undue hardship to the <br />residents as the Common Council will consider that at their Public <br />Hearing concerning this proposed vacation. <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised that the Board is in receipt of favorable <br />recommendations concerning this Vacation Petition from the Legal <br />
