Commtttle Uport: <br /> ark Varitz anti Iteration .ommitt t <br /> The February 26, 2001 meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by its <br /> Chairperson, Council Member Sean Coleman at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, Pfeifer, King, Kelly, Varner, <br /> Ujdak, White, Coleman and Kirsits; Citizen Member Kimberly Kilgore, Citizen Member Isabelle <br /> Gonzalez, Jennifer Mielke of the Community Development Department, Kimberly Minter of the <br /> Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Organization, Sean O'Brien of the Notre Dame Alumni <br /> Community Service, Mark Bradley and Jennifer Rozmarynowski of the Parks and Recreation <br /> Department;Professor Michael Lykoudis,Assistant Chair of the University of Notre Dame School <br /> of Architecture; Professor Alan DeFrees of the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, <br /> Thomas O'Neal, a student in the University of Notre Dame School of Architecture; Lou Pierce of <br /> WNDU; Carl Littrell, Gary Gilot, Park Superintendent Phil St. Clair, Bernie Feeney, Fred Thon, <br /> Community and Economic Development Director Jon Hunt, Terry Bland of the 'outi) k <br /> trt â–ºUttg, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand, Council Attorney. <br /> Council Member Coleman welcomed everyone to the Committee and noted that the purpose of the <br /> meeting was to receive an overview of the proposed Coquillard Park Revitalization Project. <br /> Park Superintendent Phil St. Clair stated that the project will address the seven (7) acre park in the <br /> northeast neighborhood by Perley School. He noted that it is a partnership of the University of <br /> Notre Dame, the Near Northeast Neighborhood Association, the Community Development <br /> Department, the Parks and Recreation Department, the South Bend Downtown Design Center and <br /> WNDU. <br /> Jennifer Mielke, a planner with the Community Development Department, noted that the project is <br /> neighborhood oriented and will represent a community building initiative. <br /> Kimberly Minter of the Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Organization noted that this is one <br /> of several exciting new projects where the park is seen as the core of the neighborhood. <br /> Lou Pierce of WNDU stated that they are adopting the park as a"rescue project". WNDU plans to <br /> have this as a high profile project for all involved so that it will bring people back to the <br /> neighborhood. He noted that Rick Riddle has prepared a history of the park , a copy of which was <br /> circulated among the committee members. <br /> Professor Michael Lykoudis stated that the School of Architecture of the University of Notre Dame <br /> sees this project as an opportunity to contribute to the community for all generations. <br /> Council Member King, the 4th District Council Member, who represents the area where the park is <br /> located then passed out two (2) handouts (copies attached); one which outlines the planning and <br /> design phase events and schedule and the second one which lists the Workgroup Members <br /> participating in the Coquillard Park Revitalization Project. Council Member King stressed that the <br /> money for the project will come from private sources and volunteers. He hopes that by setting this <br /> park project in motion that it will become a model for corporate and citizen involvement. WNDU <br /> will promote this project for corporate sponsorship. <br /> Council Member Coleman invited all Council Members to participate in the process. <br />
