Committee Report <br /> HUMAN RESOURCES AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE <br /> To the Common Council of the City of South Bend: <br /> The April 12, 1993, meeting of the Human Resources and <br /> Economic Development Committee was called to order by its' <br /> P Y <br /> Chairperson, Council Member Roland Kelly, at 3 : 30 p.m. in <br /> the Council Informal Meeting Room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Luecke, <br /> Kelly, Puzzello, Slavinskas, Zakrzewski, Coleman, Duda, <br /> Ladewski; Ernest Szarwak, Greg Mee, Mike Beitzinger, Tom <br /> Hoffman, Don Porter and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Kelly noted that the first item on the agenda <br /> II; was to review Resolution No. 93-34 which would designate the <br /> property at 3300 West Sample Street as an Economic <br /> U Revitalization Area for a five (5) year personal property <br /> tax abatement. <br /> Mr. Beitzinger then reviewed the report from the Department <br /> ss ' the <br /> of Economic Development dated March 29, 1993 , addressing p 9 <br /> request of Emtech Corporation (copy attached) . Mr. Greg <br /> Mee, the President of the Corporation, gave a brief <br /> presentation highlighting reasons why he believes the <br /> Corporation qualifies for the abatement. <br /> Following further discussion, Council Member Slavinskas made <br /> a motion, seconded by Council Member Duda, that Resolution <br /> No. 93-34 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 93-27 which is a <br /> request for a ten (10) year real property tax abatement for <br /> the property located at the southeast corner of Ireland and <br /> Miami Roads. <br /> Mr. Mike Bietzinger reviewed the report of the Department of <br /> Economic Development dated March 12 , 1993 (copy attached) . <br /> Mr. Ernest Szarwak of the Barnes & Thornburg Law Firm noted <br /> that Phase One was the exterior work and that Phase Two will <br /> include substantial renovation to the interior of the mall <br /> including theater renovation. Two hundred thousand square <br /> feet of renovation will take place costing 7 . 9 million <br />
