Qtnmmtfrn Ennui <br /> JOINT COMMITTEE MEETING <br /> PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE/PERSONNEL & FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> (go tip OlA1nntpn Council of t1, Ottg of Suutli drub: <br /> The May 11 , 1987 meeting of the Public Safety Committee and <br /> the Personnel & Finance Committee was called to order by the <br /> Chairman of the Public Safety Committee, Councilman Ann Puzzello, <br /> at 4:05 p .m. in the Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included: Councilmen Serge, Braboy, <br /> Puzzello, Zakrzewski, Paszek, Barcome and Voorde; Cafol Sanders, <br /> Dan Mirocha, Chief Luther Taylor, Norman Primus, members of the <br /> news media, and Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand . <br /> Councilman Puzzello noted that the first item to be reviewed <br /> by the Committee was Bill No. 29-87 which is a bill to establish <br /> a non-reverting fund entitled the South Bend Haz-Mat Fund . <br /> Chief Taylor noted that he is requesting the creation of the <br /> fund so that funds received for responses to hazardous spills <br /> would be placed in the dedicated fund as opposed to going into <br /> the general fund . <br /> He noted that the City of South Bend currently has contract <br /> with the Toll Road whereby the City would receive the sum of two <br /> thousand dollars ($2 ,000.00) for the first eight (8) hours when <br /> responding to a hazardous spill . <br /> Chief Taylor also indicated that the City of South Bend is <br /> having difficulty collecting money from other communities where <br /> they have responded to a hazardous spill. He indicated that <br /> several communities believe that they are covered by a mutual aid <br /> agreement and are, therefore, refusing to reimburse the City of <br /> South Bend . <br /> Chief Taylor also noted that there were five (5) runs made <br /> on the Toll Road last year and five (5) runs made throughout the <br /> County. He also indicated that South Bend was the first city to <br /> have such a program in existence in the State of Indiana. <br /> Following discussion by the Committee, Councilman Braboy <br /> made a motion, seconded by Councilman Serge, that Bill No. 29-87 <br /> be recommended favorably to Council . The motion passed <br /> unanimously. <br /> The Committee then reviewed Bill No. 30-87 which would <br /> appropriate $79 , 650.00 from the dedicated Emergency Medical <br /> Service Fund to defray various EMS related expenses . <br /> •R[[ ►R[R• ✓lA ►URLI8MIND[O. <br />
