(4) #bm the 5/24/11 agenda to <br />the 6/14/11 agenda. This issue has been the source of on -g °rebate since 1996. Further <br />debate will only lead to more adoptable animals being eu ,'„ due to the significant <br />space constraints at the current South Bend Animal CareAd Co A��1(SBACC) facility. <br />u ., <br />Respectfully, we urge the Redevelopment Commission t6",';u t the request for additional <br />funding for the new SBACC facility for the foll peasonse a .: <br />• SBACC manages over 4,000 animals eac � *Wl)4e t #b, severely:,11mited holding <br />space in the current facility , wefaced'`itb li Ythanize approximately <br />65% of those animals every y0r. As a public <br />facility, the Ing will be "an attraction" that will draw visitors to the <br />Westside whom may not regularly visit these neighborhoods otherwise. As these <br />visitors and volunteers spend time in this neighborhood, they will likely seek retail <br />and restaurant outlets in this area. This will bode well for local businesses. This is <br />currently true for volunteers and staff who seek lunch options during (or after) their <br />shifts. <br />• Having a public facility that operates on a 365, 24 x 7 schedule will increase <br />neighborhood surveillance. This will be good for neighborhood safety. <br />• On a weekly basis, SBACC staff is responsible for monitoring several juvenile <br />offenders as they complete their community service requirement at our facility. <br />With a newer, safer facility, we will be better able to work with these children in a <br />
