SOUTH BEND BOARD OF PARK COMIVHSSIONERS <br /> REGULAR MEETING <br /> MARCH 21, 2011 <br /> The Board of Park Commissioners of the Park District of the City of South Bend, Indiana met on <br /> Monday March 21, 2011 at the O'Brien Administration&Recreation Center, 321 E. Walter St., <br /> South Bend, Indiana for its regular meeting. Notice of the date,time and place of the meeting were <br /> duly given as required by law. <br /> Park Board members present were as follows: <br /> Mr. Robert Henry,President <br /> Dr. Thomas Kelly <br /> Mr. Garrett Mullins <br /> Park Board members absent were as follows: <br /> Mr. Robert Goodrich,Vice President <br /> Staff members present: Phil St. Clair, Superintendent; Bill Carleton,Fiscal Officer; Betsy Harriman, <br /> Administrative Director; Susan O'Connor,Recreation Director; Randy Nowacki,Director of Golf <br /> Operations; Terry DeRosa,Zoo Director; Richard Payton,Development Director;Matthew Moyers, <br /> Special Projects Manager;Paula Garis, Special Events Supervisor;John Walczewski, Softball <br /> Commissioner; Cheryl Greene,Acting Park Board Attorney <br /> I. The meeting was called to order by Board President Robert Henry at 4:04 p.m. <br /> II. The first order of business was the interviewing of interested citizens. <br /> 1. Mr. Joseph Kernan, of the South Bend Silver Hawks baseball team,reported to the Board <br /> regarding the status of the improvements to the stadium and the upcoming season. <br /> The season will open in three weeks and construction is ongoing. The new artificial field <br /> is being installed. He is confident they will be done by opening day. Due to this,the Notre <br /> Dame game will be moved to campus. <br /> He thanked the City Administration,Park Staff, and the Park Board for their support <br /> during the whole process. <br /> 2. Mr. Jonathon Geels of Keep South Bend Beautiful informed the Board that his <br /> organization had 200 hours of volunteer service last year doing clean ups in parks. <br /> They participated in"Parking Day", an international event. <br /> In April they will participate in Keep America Beautiful Month,National Landscape <br /> Architecture Month, and National Volunteer Month. Their kick off clean up will be April <br /> 16. A design charrette will held at the Zoo April 30. They will have a kiosk at the East <br /> Race regarding the hydro electric power project. <br /> III. The next order of business was unfinished business. <br /> 1. Request to Award Chemical and Fertilizer Bids opened at February Meeting-Randy <br /> Nowacki <br /> Mr.Nowacki requested that the Board award the chemicals and fertilizers bids that were <br /> opened at the February regular meeting based on his recommendations. <br /> - - I - - <br />
