73i <br />V <br />Board me-t• in regular session it, 9:00 A.M. All members present. <br />Mr. W. W. Austin, A. B. Thielens and Atty. B. S. Strickland of -the <br />Studebaker Corporation appeared before the Bpard.in regard to the widening of Sample St. <br />This improvement was discussed but, no action taken. <br />I <br />Councilman Hardmn aEppeared before the Board and requested that <br />alley in Augustine Addition be vacated. Resolution ordered.for_same on presentation of <br />proper petition. <br />Atty. John Yeagley appeared befeae't,he Board representating parties <br />who intended to erect a $300.000.00 Hotel consisting of 140 rooms on lot on W. Colfax <br />r Avenue.where:Willism Street is to be extended thru by the City, and stated that parties <br />were refused a permit yesterday but really had started work on said above mentioned lot. <br />Mr. Yeagley stated Mr. Hayden was purchasing property and Mr. Paxton and his b"Miar <br />were financing it, also that a Chicago Architect has prepared plans and contracts was let <br />and the State Board has approved all plans for such building, but the City Building <br />Department had refused permit. <br />Atty Yeagley stated if City was going than.with Opening of William <br />Street that building project would be postponed at present+. Board agreed to meet Atty. <br />Yeagley and discuss this matter and in the meantime all work on this building project, <br />is to be postponed. <br />The following resolution was adopted by the Board. <br />CONDEMNATION RESOLUTION NO. 83. 1924. <br />Resolved by the Board of Public Works of the C.tty,of South.Bend, <br />Indiana: That the, following described property be appeoptrat*4 for the use of -said City: <br />Beginning on the north line of Colfax Avenue 6t a point seven (7) <br />feel, east, of ,the south west corner of Bank Out lot No. 149 Thence north parallel with and <br />seven (7) faet east of the east line of -Bank Out Lot No. 149 and of Bank Out Lot No, 9, <br />First Addition of Out Lots by State Banks of Indiana, to the south line of La Salle <br />Avenue; thence east along the south line of La Salle Avenue te'the east line of lot, 3 <br />in William Miller's Suvdivision of Bank Out Lois 8 and 9: thence south -along the east line <br />Of said lot 3. and, said line produced south to the north line of Colfax Avenue, thence <br />west•alo:ng the north line of Colfax Avenue to the p1Ace of beginning. <br />Also beginning on the north line of La Salle Avenue at the southeast <br />corner of lot-13 Chapn's Suvdivision of Bank Out Lots 1 and 2, thence nirth to the southeast <br />corner of lot 12, Chapta's Subdivision of Bank Out Lots la do 29 thence northeasterly along <br />the easterly lion of said lot 12 bo the southerly line of Lincoln Way West, thence north- <br />westerly along the southerly line of.Lincoln Way West to .the northwest corner (ff said lot <br />12, to a public alley, thence southwesterly and southeRee&*-1y and ansst side of said public <br />alley to the north line of La Salle Avenue, thence east along the north line bf Ls Salle <br />Avenue to the place of.bebinning. <br />Also beginning at the intersection of the northline of Marion Street <br />and the east line of Wood Street produced north, thence in a northwesterly direction <br />to a point where the northerlK line of Portage Avenue produced -southeasterly intersects <br />the south line of Navarre Street, thence west to the northwest corner of Lot 69 Burrough's <br />Suvdivision of bank out lot # 1151 thence south along the west line of said lot 6 to a <br />point where a 11ne parallel to and eighty (80) feet. distant (measured at right angles) <br />fromthe-above described line extending from the north line of Marion Street to the south <br />line of Navarre'Street intersects said west, line of said.lot 6 thence southeasterly, <br />parallel to and eighty (80) feet distant (measured at right angles from the above mentioned <br />line extending From the north line of Marion Street tothe south line of Navarre Street, to <br />the north line of Marion Street, thence east along the north line of Marion Street to the <br />place of beginninn, being parts•of lots, 53,54, 55 and 56 of Henricks and Grant's Northwest <br />Addition to the Town of South Bend and of lots 5 and 6 of Burrough's Subdivision out lot <br />#115 of the first P13t of Out Lots of the Town of South Bend by the Stare of Indiana. <br />The following described property may be injuriously or benefically <br />affected by such appropriation:- <br />Beginnivg on the north line of South Street and th¢er line of <br />the first alley west of William Street, thence north along the center line of said alley <br />to a point one hundred and forty ,eight and one half (148-g) feet south of the south line of <br />Washington Ave., thence west parallel to and one hundred and forty eight and one half <br />(148') feet south of the south line of Washington Avenue to the west line out Lot #26 <br />produced of the First Audition of Out lots by the State Banks of Indiana; thence north, <br />along the west line of said Out Lot #26 and said west line proftood, to the alley south <br />of La Salle Avenue, thence west along said alley south of La Salle Avenue to the center <br />of La Porte Avenue, tha <br />once northwesterly along the center line of La Avenue to the <br />center of Oak Street thence easterly along the center of Oak Street to a point one hundred <br />and fifty (150) feet east of the west line of Allen Street; thence north parallel to and <br />
