Filed in Clerk's Office <br /> South Bend Police Department MAY 16 2017 <br /> 2016 Highlights and Accomplishments KAREEMAH FOWLER <br /> CITY CLERK,SOUTH BEND,IN <br /> 2016 heralded many challenges for the South Bend Police Department.The sworn and civilian staff <br /> worked with investigations, community outreach, promoted general public safety and went above and <br /> beyond for special events.The following statistics were accomplished: <br /> 2016 Calls For Service (CFS) = 103,183 2015 CFS=96,674 <br /> 2016: 23,671 case reports (1st Detail=7,631---2nd Detail= 10,709---3rd Detail=5,329---Other=2). <br /> Homicides = 14* Justifiable Homicides=01 Criminally Assault Shooting Victims (CASV) =81 <br /> *Our known Group Member Involved (GMI) shootings went from: 73.05% in 2014 to 62.35% in 2015, <br /> and down to 30.85% in 2016. <br /> *Homicides are up 14% nationally...we are not!!! Officer deaths national = 135/64-firearm,53 -crashes, <br /> 18-other. <br /> 2016 Arrests=2,536 2015 Arrests= 2,435 <br /> (but over 6,500 less CFS compared to 2016). <br /> Use of Force (UOF) =72 Use of Force (UOF) =79 <br /> Complaints from UOF=03 Complaints from UOF=04 <br /> Citizen Complaints= 29 Citizen Complaints =43 <br /> Administrative Investigations= 30 Administrative Investigations=56 <br /> Commendations=36 <br /> Crash investigations=5,000 <br /> Citations=4,300 <br /> Warnings= 1,200 <br /> Operating While Intoxicated (OWI's)= 176. <br /> Crashes involving squad cars "our fault" =33 (which is down 4 from 2015,total squad damages= <br /> $56,000). <br />
