6PJ►!Zt 090o#4e <br /> Community and Economic Development Committee <br /> ilt& Oornow* aeamad of t!w 5 of'Job. gifeeed. <br /> The June 23, 1997 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee was <br /> called to order by its Chairperson, Council Member John Broden at 5:18 p.m. in the <br /> Council informal meeting room. <br /> Persons in attendance included Council Members: Aranowski, Pfeifer, Kelly, Broden, <br /> Varner, Ujdak, Coleman, Hosinski, Sniadecki; Mike Wojtysiak, Sue Hodgson, Mike <br /> Beitzinger, Terry Bland, Mike Urbanski, John Stark, Brad Toothacher, and Kathleen <br /> Cekanski-Farrand. <br /> Council Member Broden noted that the first item on the agenda was to review Bill No. 55- <br /> 97 which would appropriate$60,000 from the Economic Development State Grant Fund. <br /> Mr. John Stark made the presentation. He noted that the bill would appropriate funds for <br /> expenses related to conducting a feasability study for redeveloping the former Oliver Plow <br /> Works site. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by Council <br /> Member Sniadecki that Bill No.55-97 be recommended favorably to Council. The motion <br /> passed. <br /> The committee then reviewed Bill No.97-37 which is a five year personal property tax <br /> abatement request for General Sheet Mill Inc.located at 1902 South Main St. <br /> Mr.Beitzinger Economic Development Specialist reviewed the report dated June 17, 1997. <br /> It noted that the peritioner has been in business since 1922 and provides metal fabricated <br /> 1products to the lawn and garden industries. New equipment is estimated to cost$783,900. <br /> 0 new permanent jobs would be created the first year with 70 full time and part time jobs <br /> being maintained. It noted that the petitioner meets all of the abatement qualifications and <br /> criteria. <br /> Mr.Mike Wojtysiak spoke on behalf of the petitioner. <br /> Following discussion, Council Member Coleman made a motion seconded by citizen <br /> g Y <br /> - favorably n <br /> member Sue Hodgson that Bill No.97 37 be recommended favorab y to Council. The <br /> motion passed. <br /> Council Member Pfeifer questioned Mr. Wojtysiak as to minorities working for the <br /> company. The committee was advised that three woman and 22 minorities of which 10 are <br /> Hispanic and 10 are African-American are currently employeed. <br /> The committee then reviewed Bill No. 97-38 which is a five year real propery tax <br /> abatement request for G&M Properites located at 2216, 2222 and 2230 South Meade St. <br /> Mr.Mike Beitzinger,Economic Development Specialist reviewed the report dated June 13, <br /> 1997. It noted that the petitioner proposes to develop new family single residences in the <br /> Rum Village area. The cost would be in the low$60,006 range for a total project cost of <br />
