South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting –September 18, 2009

6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)

B. South Bend Central Development Area

(1) continued…

and other related project coordination. As
the majority of the site area around the
ballpark has been cleared and prepared for
development, it is now time to begin the next
phases of the Coveleski Park project. Staff is
currently working on the relocation plan for
the Sons of Israel synagogue and beginning
discussions with property owners recently
added to the SBCDA acquisition list.

Another key step, as it relates to the
development efforts in the Coveleski Park
project area, is to begin work on the main
park block (bounded by Western, Lafayette,
South and Taylor) and begin to develop a
plan to invest in the efforts that will allow the
block to serve as the synergistic hub for the
development activities in the project area.
To that end, staff presents an addendum to
agreement between the City of South Bend
and Populous, Inc. (formerly HOK Sport) to
provided updated planning and design
services for the Coveleski Park project area.

Under the Addendum to Agreement
Pupulous will refine concepts for the main
park block and develop a work scope for
items that will be proposed for construction
and development as part of the Phase 1 plan
for the area. The plan will also merge
together the three separate plans
(Neighborhood, Ballpark and Facility). It
will also finalize the ballpark boundaries,
establish a plan for the land areas around the
park and develop a design concept for the
entry connection feature into the ballpark
8
