B. COORDINATION STRATEGIES <br />Law Enforcement Coordination Within and Among W&S Elements <br />Police will work with residents to identify nuisance gangs violating curfew <br />. Police will work with residents to identify areas needing more visible police presence <br />Police will work with W&S Coordinator and residents to identify locations for targeted <br />graffiti cleanup. <br />Police will work with schools to discourage youth from joining gangs <br />Community Policing Linkages <br />Police will work with residents to begin /expand crime watch programs <br />• Code Enforcement will work with residents and Community & Economic Development <br />to identify nuisance property in need of remediation /demolition and reuse <br />Police will meet with residents to inform them of crimes occurring in their <br />neighborhood. <br />Police will be involved in relevant PIT and NR programs to engage youth and provide a <br />positive situation for them to interact. <br />Prevention Intervention and Treatment Linkages <br />Safe Haven(s) Management: <br />. The W&S Steering Committee through its PIT sub-committee will work with the South <br />Bend Parks Department, area churches and other service providers to establish at <br />least one Safe Haven. <br />. The W&S Steering Committee through its PIT sub-committee will work with the School <br />Corporation to identify resources and instructors for a pilot diploma program for <br />residents in the W&S area. <br />. The W&S Steering Committee through its PIT sub-committee will work with area <br />organizations to promote healthy families and children. <br />. The W&S Seed Steering Committee will work with United Way to connect and <br />participate in efforts such as CAN and provide an access point for residents in the W&S <br />to service delivery. <br />Neighborhood Restoration Linkages <br />Critical "sustainment" activities: <br />• Community & Economic Development will continue to work with neighborhood <br />organizations and community development corporations in the area to provide for the <br />planning and implementation an funding of public works, housing, and corridor <br />development activities. <br />• Community and Economic Development will work with the St. Joseph County Bridges <br />Out of Poverty steering committee to increase participation of W&S residents and <br />business owners in Bridges program and workshops. <br />• Community and Economic Development is working with the University of Notre Dame <br />to collect critical data in order to then partner with the City, CDCs, and the Community <br />F:\DATA\SHARE\DPND\Weed&Seed\2.008 Application\2008 Application\Final format for application.doc 32 <br />
