REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 8, 2006 <br />approved. <br />ADOPT RESOLUTION NO. 03-2006 -AMENDING THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HIRING <br />POLICY <br />Upon a motion made by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. Alford and carried, the following Resolution <br />was adopted by the Board of Public Safety: <br />RESOLUTION NO. 03-2006 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY AMENDING THE FIRE <br />DEPARTMENT HIRING POLICY <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Public Safety at its meeting on June 22, 2000 adopted Resolution 81- <br />2000, apolicy for hiring new firefighters, which Resolution has been amended from time to time, most <br />recently on Apri120, 2005; and <br />WHEREAS, the policy does not make any provision for the rehiring of former members of the <br />South Bend Fire Department; and <br />WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the South Bend Fire Department to have the optionto rehire <br />former members of the South Bend Fire llepartment who left the llepartment in good standing. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1'1' RESOLVEll that: <br />1. Anew paragraph be added to Resolution No. 81-2000, as amended, which new paragraph shall <br />read in its entirety: <br />All former members of the South Bend Fire Department who left the Department in good <br />standing within the past two (2) years shall be eligible for reappointmentto the llepartment <br />providing they meet all of PERF's standards and Indiana statutes and are recommended <br />for reappointment by the Chief of the South Bend Fire llepartment. Any individual <br />reappointed shall be appointed as a probationary employee and must comply <br />with all hiring standards concerning medically related certification requirements, <br />regardless of the firefighter's original date of hire. The member shall be eligible for the <br />rank of Engineer after completion of thirty (30) days on the Department after the rehiring, <br />providing the firefighter held the rank of Engineer or higher prior to leaving the <br />Department. Such a promotion shall not effect the probationary status of the employee <br />during the first year after the rehiring. <br />2. All other portions of Resolution 81-2000 and any other amendments to the Resolution shall <br />remain in full effect. <br />Adopted this 8th day of February, 2006. <br />BOARD OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />s/Jesusa Rodriguez <br />s/Donald Alford <br />s/Juanita Dempsey <br />Attest: <br />s/Angela Jacob, Clerk <br />FILING OF REVISED MONTHLY STATISTICAL REPORT -DECEMBER 2005 <br />Chief Luther Taylor submitted to the Board a revised monthly report for the month of December <br />2005 complied by the Prevention/Inspection Bureau of the Fire Department.
