Bill No. 64-97 <br />Ordinance No. O~Q d -97 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY AND MONETARY FRINGE <br />BENEFITS FOR MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH BEND POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR <br />(:AL.ENDAR YEARS 1998. 1999, 2000 AND 2001. <br />The Common Council recognizes that Indiana Code § 36-8-3-3(d) provides that the <br />"annual compensation of all members of the police department and other appointees shall be <br />fixed by ordinance of the legislative body before August 1st of each year for the ensuring <br />budget year". <br />The City Administration, Common Council and Board of Public Safety appointed a <br />six-member City Negotiating Team and authorized it to negotiate on their behalf all pay, <br />monetary fringe benefits and working conditions for members of the South Bend Police <br />Department. <br />The City Negotiating Team and the F.O.P.Wage Committee of the Fraternal Order <br />of Police, Lodge No. 36 held numerous negotiating sessions for the past several weeks and <br />reached a tentative agreement on wages, fringe benefits and working conditions. <br />On July 28, 1997, the ratification vote of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge No. <br />36 was announced. The rank and file of the South Bend Police Department voted 166 in <br />favor and 83 against the entire wage, benefit and working condition package. <br />The following ordinance incorporates the recommended annual pay and monetary <br />fringe benefits for sworn members of the South Bend Police Department for calendar years <br />1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001. <br />The City Negotiating Team recommends passage of this Ordinance, and believes <br />that it is in the best interest of the City, the South Bend Police Department, and citizens of <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />]P101U, ~j~i`~tOrt, b~ it Or~'~itt~~' by the Common Council of the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />
