Public Hearing <br />(1) continued... <br />building that has been vacant for years. It <br />would be added value because the Center for <br />History is there, and because of the <br />Natatorium project. It will allow walking <br />between all the culture centers in the <br />neighborhood. We think that it would be <br />wonderful. I"m in support of it. <br />MS. DEA ANDREWS: I'm speaking on <br />behalf of the Near Westside Neighborhood <br />Organization which last month passed a <br />resolution wholeheartedly supporting the <br />acquisition of the Hansel Center property. <br />They feel that this is the last hope for that <br />building. And it is an historic building, and a <br />solid building, despite the things that have <br />happened to it. We feel very comfortable <br />with the proposed use for it. <br />RITA KOPALA: I think, that is the building, <br />if Notre Dame wants to take that much <br />interest in it, I would be more than thrilled to <br />see them for a change put the money into it <br />and let the city do their thing while Notre <br />Dame takes care of it. <br />JEFF GIBNEY: Just for the record, Notre <br />Dame is putting a substantial amount of <br />money into the building. City dollars are <br />going to the facade and the site. The <br />building itself will be renovated from <br />individual donations to the University of <br />Notre Dame. So, they are putting <br />approximately $750,000 into that property. <br />And they are working on an endowment and <br />will maintain it in the future. <br />
