JOSEPH COUNTY <br />DATE: APRIL 10, 2006 <br />On March 31, 2006, a petition for residential tax abatement consideration for real properties located at <br />1142 E. Sorin, 1624 Dunham, 2221 Smith, 616 and 620 Walnut, and 105, 109 and 113 Carlisle was filed <br />with the City Clerk by Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County. Pursuant to Chapter 2, Article 6, <br />Section 2-77 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, this petition was referred to the Department <br />of Community and Economic Development for purposes of investigation and preparation of a report <br />determining whether the areas qualify as Residentially Distressed Areas pursuant to I.C.6-1.1-12.1 and <br />whether all zoning requirements have been met. <br />The Department of Community and Economic Development has reviewed the petition (a copy of <br />which is attached), investigated the area and makes the following report. <br />PROJECT SUMMARY <br />Habitat for Humanity is preparing to build new homes on properties at the above listed addresses. The <br />homes will be between 1,120 square feet and 1,344 square feet in size. They will have three or four <br />bedrooms and one or one and three-quarter bathrooms. Each home will be built on a crawl space. Habitat <br />will use volunteer labor and donated materials to build the homes which will be sold to qualified low income <br />families. The approximate cost of each home will be $65,000. The total estimated dollar value of the project <br />is $520,000.00. This project helps promote future improvements and development in the area. <br />ABATEMENT QUALIFICATION <br />1.
