Section II. Sick Leave Cost Reduction Program. <br />Ordinance 8808-97 is hereby further amended by adding the following paragraph (T): <br />(T) The Sick Leave Cost Reduction Program. The Sick Leave Cost Reduction Program shall <br />continue in effect whereby a police officer may be compensated for relinquishment of earned sick time <br />through and including December 31.2001. with the Board of Public Safety establishing specific <br />criteria and conditions of the Working Agreement. <br />Section III. Technical Changes. <br />What had been denominated as Sections III, IV, V and VI are renumbered as follows: <br />Section Bt: IV. Body Armor Vest Ouartermaster S s~m• <br />A body armor vest quartermaster system shall be established January 1, 1998, for all members <br />of the Uniform Division. All Uniform Division police officers shall be provided with acity-purchased <br />body armor vest which shall be replaced pursuant to a quartermaster system. Twelve (12) new body <br />armor vests shall be purchased by the City each year and made available to non-Uniform Division <br />police on an on-needed basis, first come first serve. <br />Section ~: V. Working_Agreement. <br />The Common Council recommends that the Working Agreement as tentatively agreed to by <br />the respective Wage Teams be approved by the Board of Public Safety. <br />Section V. VI. Service Year Defined. <br />A. The first service year for a member of the South Bend Police Department commences upon <br />the individual being sworn in before the Board of Public Safety as a member of the department. The <br />second service year shall begin on the next succeeding first day of January 1st and service years shall <br />continue to increase until the member attains the maximum salary for the particular rank he or she may <br />hold. <br />B. Advancement from the rank of Patrolman First Class to Corporal is dependent upon three <br />(3) complete calendar years of service plus a determination of satisfactory performance of duty and <br />promotion by the Board of Public Safety. <br />Section ~l VII. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after <br />its passage by the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />Section IV. Effective Date.
