' Heart disease, America's 'great-
est killer, does nat confine its
ravages .to adults alone. Children,
too, ate among its victims and
tained'for treatment of youngsters
Washington avenue..
r The dispensary, which receives-
most of its suppo}t from the
South Bend Community Chest,
emphasizes early diagnosis as the..
determining element in the sue-
cessful care of heart cases, Among:.
.the 25 physicians who give their
services to the dispensary's var-
ious clinics without charge are
"Early diagnosis and plenty oP
'rest are essential to the treatment
of .children suffering from cardiac
aliments," said Miss Marian '
Moore, superintendent of the in-~'
situation. "With these two things
in their favor, they have prospects.'
of eventually enjoying fairly.good
health, Without them, they are
likely to wind up as invalids."
Two of the youngest patients
in the cardiac clinic are five-year-
old Norma Jean Wallace, whose ',
heart was damaged by rheumatic
fever, and six-year-old Joseph
Piatek, whose heart has been weak ~
since birth.
"Both of these children have
good prospects of normal health,
thanks to early diagnosis in the
clinic," Miss Moore said. "They
visit the clinic every two weeks
