BonDurant, Member <br />Jack Reed, Member <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 2, 2008 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the regular meeting at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday, December 23, <br />2008, with Board President Donald Alford, and Board Members Juanita Dempsey, Bruce J. <br />BonDurant, Patrick D. Cottrell, and Jack Reed present. Also present were Police Chief Darryl <br />Boykins, Assistant Fire Chief Jim Lopez and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13th Floor County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Z, <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING <br />President Alford stated that unless there were any objections, the Minutes of the December 3, <br />2008 meeting would be accepted as presented. <br />POLICE SELECTION PANEL <br />Upon a motion by Ms. Dempsey, seconded by Mr. Cottrell and carried, the Police Selection <br />Panel approved the recommendation of Police Chief Boykins that Mr. Aaron Michael Knepper <br />be accepted for employment as probationary police officer with the South Bend Police <br />Department for a probationary period of one (1) year. <br />Mr. John Voorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office for the swearing <br />in of the above officer. Chief Boykins joined the Board in congratulating the newly sworn in <br />officer and wishing him well in his endeavors with the South Bend Police Department. <br />APPROVE SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSIONS — 2009 <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Darryl Boykins recommended that Special Police <br />Commissions be renewed or issued for the following for the purpose of Civilian Volunteer <br />Officers. These commissions do not include the powers of arrest or the carrying of a weapon: <br />Tom Camren <br />Dick Cowper <br />Emil Eckenberger <br />Dennis Eckenberger <br />Garnett Keeys <br />- Patrick Leavell <br />- Barbara Leavell <br />- Elton Thompson <br />- Mary Reed <br />- Wendy Yuhasz <br />
