ORDINANCE NO. 2653 <br /> An Ordinance regulating the use of streets, <br /> alleys and courts in the City of South Bend, <br /> Indiana, by vehicular and pedestrian traffic, <br /> and the parking of vehicles therein, provid- <br /> ing a penalty for violation thereof and re- <br /> pealing all ordinances and parts of ordinan- <br /> ces in conflict therewith. <br /> BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br /> BEND, INDIANA, THAT: <br /> Section 1. Definitions. -- The words and phrases used in €`+a <br /> this ordinance are defined and for the purposes of this ordinance <br /> shall be construed as follows, except when otherwise expressly <br /> provided: The word "vehicle" shall mean every conveyance or device <br /> in or by which any person or property is or may be transported on the <br /> public highway, except such as are used exclusively on stationary rails- ;. ; <br /> • or tracks; for the purposes of this ordinance a baby carriage, tricycle <br /> or wheel-chair shall not be deemed a vehicle , but a bicycle or a mounted <br /> _ animal shall be comprehended in this definition.. <br /> "Driver", means any person propelling or operating any <br /> vehicle, or who is in charge of any vehicle for such purpose. <br /> II <br /> "Person" shall include every natural person, firm or cor- - <br /> poration. <br /> "Parking" shall consist of allowing a vehicle to stand in <br /> a street for a longer period of time than is necessary for the im- <br /> mediate and continuous loading or unloading of persons or materials. <br /> "Preferential or through street" shall mean any street or <br /> portion thereof to the approach of which vehicles shall come to a <br /> full stop before entering and on which street traffic shall have the <br /> right of way over the traffic crossing over or turning into such street. <br /> "Safety Zones" shall be understood as that portion of a <br /> street adjacent to street car tracks which is designated by pavement <br /> • markings or buttons, stanchions, platforms or official posts or signs <br /> for the exclusive use and protection of persons waiting for, boarding <br /> or alighting from street ears. <br /> "Property line" means the boundy line between the established <br /> i <br />
