ORDINANCE NO. 0 2/(?t <br /> AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NUMBER 2653 COMMONLY <br /> KNOWN AS THE "TRAFFIC ORDINANCE" <br /> Be it ordained by the Common Council of the City of South <br /> Bend, Indiana. <br /> SECTION 1. <br /> That Section 19 of said Ordinance Number 2653, enacted <br /> August 8, 1927, be re-enacted and amended, which section as amended <br /> and hereby re-enacted shall read as follows, to-wit: <br /> "SECTION 19.--The Board of Public Safety shall cause <br /> zones along the curb to be designated, appropriately marked <br /> and designated by signs upon the curb or otherwise, for the <br /> loading and unloading of passengers or ,materials, at office <br /> • building, hotel, and theater entrances, or at public entrances <br /> or points where the general convenience of the public requires, <br /> or where unusual quantities of freight or merchandise are load- <br /> ed or unloaded, the number of such zones, in order to conserve <br /> parking space, to be restricted to actual necessities or the <br /> public convenience. <br /> No parking, except temporarily for loading <br /> or unloading persons or materials, as defined in Section 1, <br /> shall be permitted in such loading zones, when appropriately <br /> marked and designated by signs; no parking, except temporarily <br /> for loading or unloading persons or materials, as defined in <br /> Section 1, shall be permitted in any public street parallel or <br /> adjacent to any other vehicle parked at the curb on the same <br /> side of the street, that is, double parking is hereby prohibit- <br /> ed; provided, however, that the loading or unloading of- materials <br /> from vehicles unattended by a competent and legal driver shall <br /> be permitted in the zones or positions designated in this sec- <br /> tion only from delivery trucks or from such vehicles as are <br /> plainly and outwardly designated or marked by appropriate signs <br /> as delivery vehicles; provided further that a vehicle attended <br /> by a competent and legal driver shall not be understood as park- <br /> ed when standing temporarily in the zones or positions designat- <br /> ed in this section 'for persons or materials intended to be load- <br /> ed or unloaded to or from said vehicle, but such driver shall <br /> move his vehicle immediately if interfering with the movement of <br /> any other vehicle or with general traffic; and provided further <br /> that no vehicle shall be permitted to stand or stop for any pur- <br /> pose at any point on or along any street parallel or adjacent to <br /> a vehicle parked between it and the curb within 30 feet of a pro- <br /> hibited zone at any street intersection. " • <br /> SECTION 2. <br /> That Section 18 of Ordinance Number 2653 as originally passed, <br /> be re-enacted and amended and which section as amended shall read as <br /> follows, to-wit: <br /> "For purposes of short time parking, 15 minutes parking <br /> or waiting zones may be established by the Board of Public <br /> Safety, which said Board shall cause to be appropriately mark- <br /> ed and designated by signs upon the curb or otherwise, at such <br /> points as .convenience or necessity may require, and no vehicle <br /> shall park in such waiting zones when so marked and designated <br /> for a longer continuous period than 15 minutes, during the days' <br /> and hours thereof, applying to hour parkin,. as stated in Section <br /> 17. " ±. <br />
