Statement from the LaSalle Square Steering Committee
To the Area Plan Commission of St. Joseph County,lN.
November 18, 2008
The LaSalle Square Steering Committee is pleased to offer this statement of support for
the Faith Apostolic Temple, Ines petition for rezoning to the Area Plan Commission. The
LaSalle Square Steering Committee is a group of stakeholders convened at the request of Mayor
Luecke to help guide the LaSalle Square Area Redevelopment Plan (LSARP), which was
approved by the Redevelopment Commission on October 3, 2008.
The LSARP was developed through public planning process by the consultant team of
ZPD-~-A and the Center for Neighborhood Technologies. There were two well-advertised and
attended public meetings that acted as basis to formulate the Plan in conjunction with market
research.
The ultimate outcome of the Plan calls for LaSalle Square to become a vibrant mixed-
used development with a variety of land uses. Moreover, the Plan calls for senior housing to be
developed at the proposed site, between the Library and existing commercial buildings affronting
Bendix Drive.
The LaSalle Square Steering Committee has reviewed the proposed development and is
in support, given that the project meets the goals of the Plan. We look forward with working with
the developers throughout their Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program application process
and the Development Review Process. This development will aid in the implementation of the
Plan, and increase the viability of commercial development in the future. To this end, we are in
support of the rezoning.
~pG Z~S?~-a6
~~J~lo~
