Talboom Deputy <br /> Kareemah Fowler Chief Deputy <br /> <br />REPORT FROM THE SUB-COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />th <br />Councilmember Henry Davis made a motion that the minutes of the March 9, 2015, meeting of <br />the Council be accepted and placed on file. Councilmember Schey seconded the motion which <br />carried by a voice vote of eight (8) ayes and one (1) nay by Councilmember Derek Dieter. <br /> <br />SPECIAL BUSINESS <br /> <br />15-14 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, DECLARING THE WEEK OF MARCH 23 – 31, 2015 <br />AS FARMWORKER AWARENESS WEEK IN SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />, the South Bend Common Council notes that Farmworkers Awareness Week is a week of <br />Whereas <br />action to raise awareness about farmworker issues in our communities; and <br />th <br />, this year marks the 16 Annual Farmworker Awareness Week which provides <br />Whereas <br />opportunities to learn about the farmworker conditions and to honor their important contributions to <br />society; and <br />,85% of our fruits and vegetables are handpicked by an estimated two million men, women <br />Whereas <br /> <br />and children working in farm fields throughout the United States which the Fair Labor Standards Act being <br />amended in 1978 to require minimum wages for farmworkers on large farms only; and <br />, this year Farmworker Awareness Week coincides with the birthday of Cesar Chavez’s <br />Whereas <br />birthday on March 31st. who dedicated himself to non-violent organizing for just wages, safer working <br />conditions and dignity for the men, women and children who toil in the fields, with Indiana farms <br />employing over 39,000 seasonal and migrant farmworkers who contribute to the agricultural industry of <br />our state. <br /> <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as follows: <br />1 <br /> <br /> <br />
