REGULAR MEETING APRIL 15.2015 37 <br />APPROVE RECOMMENDATION FOREMPLOYEESOF THE MONTH — FEBRUARY 2015 <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald Teachman stated that Sergeant Joe Leszezynski and <br />Patrolman First Class Michael Torino were selected as Employees of the Month for February 2015. <br />The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who <br />have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement <br />position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Chief <br />Teachman stated that the officers were instrumental in the apprehension of a murder suspect and the <br />murder weapon due to their diligence and commitment to duty. Be noted they tracked the suspect <br />and took him into custody without incident and found the murder weapon, all within four (4) hours <br />during a bitterly cold snow storm. There being no further discussion, the Board accepted the <br />recommendation of Employees of the Month as outlined above. <br />OFFICERS OF THE YEAR 2014 — KELLY WAITE AND GREG HOWARD <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald Teachman stated that investigator Kelly Waite and <br />Patrolman Greg Howard were selected as Officers of the year for 2014. The award is to recognize <br />officers, civilian employees, on the South. Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions <br />noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of <br />the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Chief Teachman stated <br />the award is given every year and is a peer review award. He stated the candidates are submitted and <br />the peer review team votes on the winners. Chief Teachman noted Officer Howard was selected as <br />Employee of the Month last year and is consistently nominated for Employee of the Month. Kelly <br />Waite assumed the lead in the burglary unit and the category is in the fifth year of a decline. Chief <br />Teachman added she also took the lead in the "leads on line" program and went above and beyond to <br />attend community meetings to explain the program to the community. There being no further <br />discussion, the Board accepted the recommendation of Officers of the Year as outlined above. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT MARCH 2015 <br />President Collins stated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the Board, the <br />statistical analysis report for the month of March 2015, as submitted by the Police Department, <br />would be accepted for filing. He noted it speaks well for the relationship with the City. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, upon a motion by Mr. Taylor, seconded <br />by Mr. Miller and carried, the meeting adjourned at 11:00 am. <br />
