-3- <br />Sec. 13. "Safety zone. " - =The area or space officially set agort within a <br />roadway for the exclusive use of pedestrians and which is protected or is so <br />marked or indicated by adequate si -ns as to be plainly visible at all times <br />while set apart as a safety zone. <br />Sec. 14. (a) "Official traffic control devices." - -All signs, signals, <br />markings and devices not inconsistent with this ordinance placed or erected <br />by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction, for the purpose <br />of regulating, warning;, or guiding traffic. <br />(b) "Official traffic signals. " - -tiny device, whether manually, electrically, <br />or mechanically operated, by which traffic is altornately directed to stop and <br />to proceed. <br />Sec. 15. (a) "Business district. " - -The territory contiguous to and including <br />a highway when fifty per cent or more of the frontage thereon for a distance <br />of 300 feet or more'is occupied by buildings in use for business. <br />(b) "Rbsidence district."--The territory contiguous to and including a high- <br />way not comprising a business district when the property on such highways <br />for a distance of 300 feet or more'is in the main improved with dwellings or <br />dwell.ngs and buildings in use for business. <br />ARTICLI; II. <br />Required Obedience To Traffic Regulations. <br />Sec. 16. "Required obedience to traffic ordinance. " - -It is a misdemeanor for <br />any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform any act re-uired in this <br />ordinance. <br />Sec. 17. "Obedience to Police. " - -No person shall wilfully fail or refuse to <br />comply with any lawful order or direction of a police officer. <br />Sec. 18. "Public employees to obey traffic regulations. " - -The provisions of <br />this ordinance shall apply to tho driver of any vehicle owned by or used in the <br />service of the United States Government, this State, county or city, and it shall <br />be unlawful for any'said driver to violate any of the provisions of this ordin- <br />ance, except as otherwise permitted in this ordinance or by State statute. <br />eee. 19. "Nxemptions to authorized emergency vehicles. " - -(a) The provisions <br />of this ordinance regulating the operation, parking, and standing of vehicles <br />shall apply to authorized emergency vehicles, as defined in this ordinance, <br />except as follows: <br />A driver when operating any such vehicle in an emergency , except when other - <br />,rise directed by a police officer, may -- <br />(1) Park or str..nd notwithstanding the provisions i� this ordinance; <br />(2) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing <br />down as may be necessery for safe operation; <br />(3) Zxceed the prima facie speed limits'so long as he does not endanger <br />life or property; <br />
