-3- Sec. 13. "Safety zone. " - =The area or space officially set agort within a roadway for the exclusive use of pedestrians and which is protected or is so marked or indicated by adequate si -ns as to be plainly visible at all times while set apart as a safety zone. Sec. 14. (a) "Official traffic control devices." - -All signs, signals, markings and devices not inconsistent with this ordinance placed or erected by authority of a public body or official having jurisdiction, for the purpose of regulating, warning;, or guiding traffic. (b) "Official traffic signals. " - -tiny device, whether manually, electrically, or mechanically operated, by which traffic is altornately directed to stop and to proceed. Sec. 15. (a) "Business district. " - -The territory contiguous to and including a highway when fifty per cent or more of the frontage thereon for a distance of 300 feet or more'is occupied by buildings in use for business. (b) "Rbsidence district."--The territory contiguous to and including a high- way not comprising a business district when the property on such highways for a distance of 300 feet or more'is in the main improved with dwellings or dwell.ngs and buildings in use for business. ARTICLI; II. Required Obedience To Traffic Regulations. Sec. 16. "Required obedience to traffic ordinance. " - -It is a misdemeanor for any person to do any act forbidden or fail to perform any act re-uired in this ordinance. Sec. 17. "Obedience to Police. " - -No person shall wilfully fail or refuse to comply with any lawful order or direction of a police officer. Sec. 18. "Public employees to obey traffic regulations. " - -The provisions of this ordinance shall apply to tho driver of any vehicle owned by or used in the service of the United States Government, this State, county or city, and it shall be unlawful for any'said driver to violate any of the provisions of this ordin- ance, except as otherwise permitted in this ordinance or by State statute. eee. 19. "Nxemptions to authorized emergency vehicles. " - -(a) The provisions of this ordinance regulating the operation, parking, and standing of vehicles shall apply to authorized emergency vehicles, as defined in this ordinance, except as follows: A driver when operating any such vehicle in an emergency , except when other - ,rise directed by a police officer, may -- (1) Park or str..nd notwithstanding the provisions i� this ordinance; (2) Proceed past a red or stop signal or stop sign, but only after slowing down as may be necessery for safe operation; (3) Zxceed the prima facie speed limits'so long as he does not endanger life or property;
