Article 4 - Selection of Ducts, <br />Registers, and Intakes. <br />Section 1. The selection of leaders, risers, fittings, registers, <br />and intakes shall be made in accordance with the standard method outlined in <br />the Manual, Sections C through F. Insofar as conditions permit, the standard <br />sizes of ducts, fittings, registers, and intakes shown in Sections E and F of <br />the 'manual shall be used. <br />given to. <br />Article 5 - Installation Details <br />Section 1. In locating the furnace, due consideration should be <br />(a) equalizing the length of the leader pipes. <br />(b) spacing the retarn air ducts equally around the <br />casing, <br />(c) minimizing the length of the smokepipe, <br />(d) ease of firing and servicing the furnace. <br />Section 2. <br />(a) Furnace foundation of brick, cement, or other incombustible material <br />must be provided. Said foundation shall extend at least 15 inches at rear and <br />sides of furnace casing, and at least 36 inches in front of furnace casing. <br />Foundation is to be level. <br />(b) Where it is necessary to place a furnace on a combustible floor, <br />not less than 5 inches of hollow tile shall be used in every instance, having joints <br />matched in such a way that air passage will be free from side to side, so that <br />at no time will the removal of ashes or the handling of coal close up these openings. <br />Such foundation shall be constructed upon, and covered with continuous sheet metal <br />plates, of not less than No. 24 gauge metal, having all joints substantially <br />riveted or double seamed and the bottom sheet to have the edges turned up at least <br />one inch. This floor covering shall extend under the whole of the firebox and <br />ashpit of the furnace and outwardly not less than 12 inches on all sides and rear <br />of casing or base ring and 36 inches in front. <br />Section 3 - Setting or Assembling of Furnace. <br />(a) The base ring of any portable -r.arm -air furnace shall be cemented <br />to the foundation, and cement flushed around the inside of the base rings, making <br />an air -tight joint.
