South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -November 7, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. South Bend Central Development Area
(4) Proposal for survey services in the South
Bend Central Development Area. (118 S.
William)
Mr. Mathia noted that The Manor at 118 S.
William is currently vacant and for sale.
Staff is concerned lest the property fall into
the wrong hands. We would like to proceed
toward acquisition while the property is for
sale. We need to get a survey, appraisals and
an environmental assessment.
Mr. Varner asked if staff has ever looked at
the loss in taxes as it acquires these
properties, as part of the total acquisition
cost. Mr. Mathia responded that staff does
take that into consideration. In this case,
both Sweet Home Baptist Church and The
Manor, owned by Madison Center, are tax
exempt. Staff was not able to find the taxes
for 325-329 S. Main, but the assessed value
is $127,000. Mr. Inks said the taxes on that
would then be about $4,000 per year.
Upon a motion by Mr. Downes, seconded by
Mr. Varner and unanimously carried, the
Commission approved the request for
proposal for survey services in the South
Bend Central Development Area and
accepted the proposal from Wightman Petrie
in a not to exceed amount of $3,195.
(118 S.
