P E T I T I O N <br />TO: The Members of the Common Council <br />of the City of South Bend, Indiana <br />The undersigned respectfully petitions the Common <br />Council of the City of South Bend to change the name of those <br />portions of Varsity Drive and Holiday Drive in the City of South <br />Bend, Indiana, lying North of the North line of Colfax Avenue <br />to the name of Swanson Circle, and in support thereof, submits <br />the following: <br />1. Varsity Drive in theCity of South Bend, extends <br />from the North line of Marshall Street, Northward past the <br />North line of Colfax Avenue, where it circles 90 degrees to <br />the East, and terminates at a point where it meets Holiday Drive, <br />- midway between Varsity Drive on the West and Holiday Drive on the <br />East. <br />2. That Holiday Drive in the City of South Bend, <br />extends from the North line of Marshall Street, Northward past <br />the North line of Colfax Avenue, where it circles 90 degrees <br />to the West, and terminates at a point where it meets Varsity <br />Drive, midway between Varsity Drive on the West and Holiday <br />Drive on the East; that each of said streets lie wholly within <br />Swanson Park Fourth Addition to the City of South Bend, as <br />platted by the undersigned petitioner. <br />3. That said portions of Varsity Drive and Holiday <br />Drive lying North of the North line of Colfax Avenue appear on <br />the plat of said Subdivision as an inverted "U"; that by reason <br />thereof it has commonly been described by residents of the <br />neighborhood as "Swanson Circle "; that the undersigned, C. Harry <br />Swanson, Inc. or C. Harry Swanson individually is the owner of <br />all lots fronting upon said two streets, and does not believe <br />that a change in name to Swanson Circle would cause any incon- <br />venience or require any change in address. <br />4. That there is no other street within the corporate <br />limits of the City of South Bend having the name Swanson, and <br />that a change of name to Swanson Circle would not, so far as the <br />undersigned has been able to determine, cause any confusion. <br />The power to change street names being vested in the <br />Common Council of this City, this petition is for the reasons above <br />noted, being respectfully submitted to you. <br />C.
