ORDINANCE NO. <br />5150 -70 <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SEVERAL SECTIONS OF <br />ORDINANCE NO. 4838- 66fiENTITLED " AN <br />ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 36 OF THE <br />MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, 1962, RELATING TO TAXICABS AND <br />OTHER VEHICLES; AND ENACTING AN ORDINANCE <br />REGULATING TAXICABS AND OTHER VEHICLES; <br />LICENSING TAXICABS AND TAXICAB DRIVERS; <br />PROVIDING FOR TAXICAB STANDS ON THE <br />PUBLIC STREETS; PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR <br />THE VIOLATION THEREOF ", AS AMENDED. <br />ORDINANCE NO.4870 -66 <br />and <br />ORDINANCE NO.4901 -66 <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />SECTION I. That Ordinance No. 4838 -66, as amended, be <br />further amended as follows: <br />(1) Section 1. (c) Delete in entirety and substitute <br />the following: "Driver's license means the written permit <br />issued by the City Controller to a person to drive a taxi- <br />cab upon the streets of the City of South Bend, Indiana." <br />ORDINANCE NO 4870 -66 <br />(2) Section 11. Delete in entirety and substitute <br />the following: "An application for a taxicab driver's <br />license shall be filed with the City Controller on forms pro- <br />vided by the City of South Bend; and such application shall <br />be verified under oath and shall contain the following in- <br />formation: <br />(a) The names and addresses of four residents of <br />the City of South Bend who have known the applicant for a <br />period of five years and who will vouch for the sobriety, <br />honesty, and general good character of the applicant. <br />(b) The experience of the applicant in the trans- <br />portation of passengers. <br />(c) The educational background of the applicant. <br />(d) A concise history of his employment. <br />Each application shall be accompanied by a certifi- <br />cate from a reputable physician of the City of South Bend <br />certifying that, in his opinion, the applicant is not suffer- <br />ing with any disease or infirmity which might make him an un- <br />safe or unsatisfactory driver. At the time the application is <br />filed the applicant shall pay to the City Controller the sum <br />of Five Dollars ($5.00). The provisions of this section <br />shall not apply to persons now having a valid taxicab drivers <br />license at the time this ordinance becomes effective, but <br />such persons shall comply with the renewal provisions of this <br />section on and after January 1, 1967." <br />
