April 7, 1971 <br />TO: Members of the Common Council <br />RP,: Digester Nos. 2 and 4 - Wastewater Treatment Plant <br />1. <br />PROM: John L. Hunter, Director of Utilities <br />Advertisements for bids were placed in the Tri- County News and <br />South Bend Tribune on Mareh -19 and 26, 1971. Bids were received <br />April 5 and referred to Clyde E. Williams & Associates, Inc. and our <br />office for recommendation. The following bids were received: <br />E. J. White, Inc. $49,258.00 <br />0. J. Shoemaker, Incorporated 37,661.00 <br />E. L. Zimmerman Co., Ind,. 35,511.00 <br />Since E. L. Zimmerman Co., Inc. is low bidder and meets specifi- <br />cations; recommendation was made to the Board of Wastewater Treatment <br />Commissioners on April 6 to accept their bid. The Board agreed and <br />entered into a contract on this date. <br />Objectives of this program are as follows: <br />1. Improve grit removal from the sides of the digester <br />cone and thereby increase the time interval between <br />digester cleanings. <br />2. Improve distribution of sludge input and thereby <br />put into effective use some of digester capacity <br />that is not now effective. <br />3.
