and the Indiana University School of Medicine faculties to create and operate technology <br />platforms in cancer detection and therapy, with an active effort to identify, develop and introduce <br />spin -off commercial applications of these platforms in Michiana, ideally in cooperation with <br />medical industry leaders. <br />The IP @ND's Community Development Component <br />IP @ND will have a definite impact on the Notre Dame campus culture and its Catholic <br />tradition by providing consistent reinforcement of the potential value of implementing research <br />and teaching into practical use to serve mankind. It will also clearly impact the economic climate <br />in Michiana and the State of Indiana, through the essential reliance on existing and new <br />commercial partners to provide mission critical services to IP @ND tenants /clients. These <br />services will include professional service providers, such as legal and accounting, but also will <br />extend to other companies offering rapid prototyping and/or manufacturing of critical <br />components, information technology, biotech materials and other vital business services and <br />products. In addition, IP @ND will look to the Michiana region as a potential "landing area" <br />(e.g., the Sample St. corridor in downtown South Bend) to transplant its start-up clients at the <br />appropriate stage of development. <br />The IP @ND's Sustaining Component <br />The IP @ND will initially rely on grants and private gifts to operate its facilities and <br />support its programs. Within a 5 -7 year period, however, the Park must be financially self - <br />sustaining from a variety of sources. Net cash revenues from rents from all tenants of the <br />IP @ND will be used for current operations. The IP @ND will also seek compensation from its <br />tenants commensurate with the resources /services provided, or an ownership equity position in <br />the downstream prospects of its start-up clients inspired and supported through its "greenhouse" <br />Page 6 of 23 <br />
