Budget, NIDAS <br />6/1/74 <br />The purpose of this revenue sharing is to support various drug <br />abuse programs through June 1975. This is the same program unit <br />for which funding was requested last year, with the exception that <br />in this current request, not support is required for the Methadone <br />Support Program. <br />METHADONE SUPPORT PROGRAM (LIGHTHOUSE) <br />Shortly after clearance of the 1973 appropriation by the State <br />Tax Board, colaborations between NIDAS and Drug Dependence Services, <br />In.c (DDS) began in an effort to establish the Methadone Center. <br />The property of 509 W. Washington was leased, and administrative <br />staff employed during July and August. Federal applications and <br />protocols were submitted and cleared by October. Federal site <br />inspections were completed in early November and all that remained <br />for the doors to open was the establishment of a working agreement <br />between NIDAS and DDS which delineated procedures for mutual <br />sharing of control by the two agencies. You are well aware of <br />the complexities that developed. However, verbal agreements <br />were reached which permitted the program to open 12/24/73, while <br />the details of the contract were being completed. <br />The lighthouse has now been open for six weeks, and currently <br />maintains a census of approximately 30 and slowly rising. <br />Statistical breakdowns will be included in the Mayor's report. <br />RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM (DELOS HOUSE) <br />The residential Therapeutic Community evolved from the non- <br />residential drug free program that was seeded by United Way. <br />In the transition of programmatically moving from non - residential <br />concept to a residential one, NIDAS made use of two temporary <br />
