E. <br />Director, Public Works <br />Members of the Common Council <br />County /City Building <br />South Bend, In 46601 <br />Subject: Public Works Construction Projects <br />Gentlemen: <br />Reply To: Department <br />of Public Works <br />April 16, 1974 <br />Revenue Sharing Funds are requested for three Department of Public Works <br />construction projects. These projects are: <br />1. The signalization of the Miami - Ridgedale inter- <br />section, $27,500. <br />2. The grading, paving and drainage of Inwood Road, <br />$44,000. <br />3. Grading, paving and drainage of Denslow Drive, <br />$44,000. <br />The signalization of the Miami intersection is at the point where Ridge - <br />dale intersects Miami to the east and Chippewa Street to the west. The <br />heavy increases in traffic volumes on Miami, due to residential expansion <br />to the south and the new Scottsdale Mall, make it extremely difficult and <br />dangerous for traffic to enter onto Miami from the residential side streets. <br />Signals are recommended to permit this residential traffic to enter onto <br />Miami, and to provide gaps in the traffic for adjacent unsignalized inter- <br />sections. This project is considered an important safety project. <br />Inwood Road and Denslow Drive are County take over streets. During the <br />past two Winters extensive deterioration of the surface on these streets <br />has occurred. Both streets have severe drainage problems. On Inwood a <br />
