Amend Section 15-16 Milage Rates

ORDINANCE NO. 5709 -74 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 15 -16 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS AMENDED. BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, that: SECTION 1. Subdivision (2) of Subsection (a), Section 15 -16 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as amended, is hereby further amended to read as follows: "(2) Mileage Rates: Seventy -five Cents ($0.75) for the first one -fifth (1/5) of a mile or fraction thereof; thereafter, Ten Cents ($0.10) for each additional one -fifth (1/5) of a mile or fraction thereof; and," SECTION 2. Subsection (a) of Section 15 -16 of the Municipal Code of the City of South Bend, Indiana, as amended, is hereby further amended by the addition thereto of the following new subdivision (4): "(4) If the passenger(s) requires the taxicab to carry packages or luggage or other articles, then the trip shall be charged at a minimum rate of fare of One Dollar and Twenty -five Cents ($1.25) when any of the articles are handled by the driver." SECTION 3. Provided, that a taxicab may be hired at the rate of Six Dollars ($6.00) per hour for driving within the City when so hired before the trip is begun; provided further, that charges for waiting time shall be computed on the fraction thereof of the hourly rate. Waiting time shall include the time when the taxicab is not in motion, beginning at its arrival at the place to which it has been called or the time consumed while standing at the direction of the passenger, but no charge shall be made for time lost because of the inefficiency of the taxicab or its driver or time consumed by premature response to a call. SECTION 4. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect on September 1, 1974. Passed August 12, 1974, as amended.
