ORDINANCE NO. 5706 -74 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF <br />POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1975. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and <br />members of the Police Department of the City of South Bend for the <br />year 1975, by rank, classification and service years, shall be <br />according to the 1975 Police Salary Schedule as follows: <br />(Here insert the 1975 Police Salary Schedule which <br />is attached to this ordinance.) <br />The first service year for a police officer commences <br />upon his being sworn in as a police officer. The police officer <br />shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first <br />day of January and shall advance one service year on each successive <br />first day of January until he attains the maximum salary for the <br />particular rank he may hold. <br />The maximum salary shall be the last salary listed <br />under each rank in the above schedule. <br />SECTION 2. (a) A person who has accumulated at least <br />30 hours of credit from an accredited college or university may enter <br />the Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 0 -1 service <br />years upon order of the Board of Safety. . <br />(b) A person who has accumulated at'least 60 hours <br />of credit from an accredited college or university may enter the <br />Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 1 -2 service years <br />upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />(c) A person who has accumulated at least 90 hours <br />of credit from an accredited college or university may enter the <br />Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 2 -3 service years <br />upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />(d) A person who has received a bachelor's degree <br />from an accredited college or university may enter the Police <br />Department with the rank of Corporal and 3 -4 service years upon <br />order of the Board of Safety. <br />(e) Each person qualifying under this section shall <br />advance one service year on the first day of January following his <br />being sworn in as a police officer and shall advance one service <br />year on each successive first day of January until he attains the <br />maximum salary for the particular rank he may hold. <br />(f) An officer who is a member of the force prior <br />to the effective date of this ordinance may be credited with one <br />service year for each 30 hours of credit which he has obtained from <br />an accredited college or university and may also be assigned an <br />appropriate rank upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />SECTION 3. Any officer receiving less than a $600.00 <br />salary increase above his salary as of June 30, 1974, may be entitled <br />to a salary schedule adjustment which shall be established $600.00 <br />above his June 30, 1974, salary. This salary may be set by the <br />Board of Safety prior to January 1, 1975, and shall include night <br />incentive, promotions, educational incentive and hazard pay, but <br />shall not apply to any officer demoted between June 30, 1974, and <br />December 31, 1975. <br />
