Attachment B <br />YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU PROGRAMS <br />Manpower Work Experience Program <br />(Formerly NYC Out -Of- School Program) <br />We do the training site placement and job coach <br />experience program for South Bend youth. First <br />disadvantaged school dropouts, 16 -21 years old. <br />have been employed so far with 45% of the youth <br />employment, returning to school or enrolling in <br />training. <br />11. School Service Coordinator Program <br />ing for the work <br />priority is for <br />Over 250 youth <br />entering private <br />further technical <br />We have degreed professionals assisting school administrators as <br />detached workers /counselors in 10 area schools. The Coordinator <br />spends 6 -12 hours per week at a school, visits families, makes <br />referrals, tutors, counsels, etc. The thrust of the program is <br />delinquency prevention and coordinatlon.6f ; you'th- serving agencies. <br />Approximately 500 youth have received some service. <br />.111. Therapeutic Recreation Program <br />Under the direction of a man with a masters in Therapeutic <br />Recreation, and through the assistance of the South Bend <br />Recreation Department, staff members and interns conduct programs <br />for specialized school classes, other agencies, and for many <br />selecped groups of clients. Approximately 300 youth have been <br />served in this manner. <br />IV. Student Intern Program <br />In conjunction with IUSB, Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, <br />Penn State, and other universities we have provided laboratory <br />social work, recreation, and counseling experiences for 24 <br />students. These students (seniors or graduate students) <br />provide enthusiastic and competent casework under supervision, <br />while receiving a variety of client referrals. (All cases <br />are supervised by a regular staff member.) <br />V. Out Reach <br />Caseworkers receive <br />Probation, schools) <br />and school visits. <br />assistance is avail. <br />Over 1500 referrals <br />referrals from our main intake sources (Police, <br />and locate youth with problems while doing home <br />Crisis intervention and weekend and evening <br />able. The counseling is informal in nature. <br />have been received. <br />VI. Group Work <br />Experienced professionals conduct group and family counseling and <br />social experiences. Activities include camping trips, holiday <br />activities, work- leisure progrzms, field trips, etc. Approximately <br />400 youth have been involved. <br />
