ORDINANCE NO. 5853 -75 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF <br />POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1976. <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and <br />members of the 'Police Department of the City of South Bend for <br />the year 1976, by rank, classification and service years, shall <br />be according to the 1976 Police Salary Schedule as follows: <br />(Here insert the 1976 Police Salary Schedule which <br />is attached to this ordinance.) <br />The first service year for a police officer commences <br />upon his being sworn in as a police officer. The police officer <br />shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first <br />day of January and shall advance one service year on each <br />successive first day of January until he attains the maximum <br />salary for the particular rank he may hold. <br />The maximum salary shall be the last salary listed <br />under each rank in the above schedule. <br />SECTION 2. (a) A person who has accumulated at <br />least 30 hours of credit from an accredited college or university <br />may enter the Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 0 -1 <br />service years upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />(b) A person who has accumulated at least 60 hours <br />of credit from an accredited college or university may enter the <br />Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 1 -2 service years <br />upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />(c) A person who has accumulated at least 90 hours <br />of credit from an accredited college or university may enter the <br />Police Department with the rank of Corporal and 2 -3 service years <br />upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />(d) A person who has received a bachelor's degree <br />from an accredited college or university may enter the Police <br />Department with the rank of Corporal and 3 -4 service years upon <br />order of the Board of Safety. <br />(e) Each person qualifying under this section shall <br />advance one service year on the first day of January following <br />his being sworn in as a police officer and shall advance one <br />service year on each successive first day of January until he <br />attains the maximum salary for the particular rank he may hold. <br />(f) An officer who is a member of the force prior to <br />the effective date of this ordinance may be credited with one <br />service year for each 30 hours of credit which he has obtained <br />from an accredited college or university and may also be assigned <br />an appropriate rank upon order of the Board of Safety. <br />SECTION 3. Any individual officer receiving less than <br />a $300 salary increase above his salary as of December 31, 1975, <br />may be entitled to a salary schedule adjustment which shall be <br />established $300 above his December 31, 1975 salary.
