Nemeth <br />Mayor <br />Common Council Members <br />4th Floor, County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana 46601 <br />In Re: $35,000 Revenue Sharing Fund Request <br />Gentlemen: <br />I am sure you are aware that the city's ambulances <br />desperately need replacement. We have carefully <br />examined our Para - Medical Ambulance Program, and are <br />proposing that one new ambulance be purchased immediately, <br />and the "better" of our two existing ambulances be <br />repaired so that it can be used one more year. We are <br />recommending that the city purchase a "modular" type <br />ambulance which would require chassis and motor replace- <br />ment every two years. The "box" should last for eight <br />to ten years. The initial cost is more, but a savings <br />should occur in not having to replace the entire ambulance <br />every two years. <br />We are, therefore, requesting the Council to approve <br />the use of $32,500 in revenue sharing funds for the purchase <br />of a modular type ambulance completely equipped with <br />emergency equipment. We also are requesting $2,500 in <br />revenue sharing funds to "rehabilitate" one existing <br />ambulance, to allow its use for one more year. The <br />purchase of the new ambulance would, of course, require <br />Board of Works action pending approval of this request. <br />We have also set up the "Save -A -Life Fund" to permit <br />the city to solicit and receive funds which would only be <br />used to support the city's fine ambulance service.
