Rollin E. Farrand, Sr., P.E.
Director, Public Works
CITY of SOUTH BEND
PETER J. NEMETH, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
August 16, 1976
Members of the Common Council
441 County /City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Subject: Vehicle Maintenance Equipment Appropriation
Dear Council Members:
L AOUT/04/
LU
LU rn
a, W z
a
INDIANP
219/284 -9251
The Department of Public Works is filing an ordinance requesting an
appropriation of $5,600 to provide hydraulic hoists for the Bureau
of Vehicle Maintenance. These hoists will be used to lift cars and
small trucks.
As the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance has increased the efficiency of
its employees and provided additional training, the handicap posed
by the lack of operable vehicle hoists has become increasingly appar-
ent. Without these hoists it is necessary to use hand - operated hoists
which are less efficient and should be considered less reliable.
The addition of these hoists will facilitate the efforts of this De-
partment to provide an increasing variety of repairs to the city
vehicle fleet. It is anticipated that these hoists will contribute
to the reduction of employee fatigue, as well as increasing produc-
tivity through more efficient operations.
Your favorable consideration of this appropriation is recommended.
REF:amc
CC: James Meehan
Very truly yours,
/.CliSJcQ 3l
Rollin E.
