ORDINANCE NO. 5991 -76 <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE ANNUAL PAY OF <br />POLICEMEN FOR THE CALENDAR YEAR 1977 <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, as follows: <br />SECTION 1. The annual pay of the officers and <br />members of the Police Department of the City of South Bend <br />for the year 1977, by rank, classification and service years, <br />shall be according to the 1977 Police Salary Schedule as <br />follows: <br />Police Chief . . . . . <br />. . . . <br />. . . . . <br />. . .$19,000 <br />Division Chiefs . . . . <br />. . . . <br />. . . . . . <br />. . 17,500 <br />Captains . . . . . . . <br />. . . . <br />. . . . . <br />. . . 16,000 <br />Lieutenants . . . . . <br />. . . . <br />. . . . . . <br />. . 14,500 <br />Sergeants . . . . . . <br />. . . . <br />. . . . . . <br />. . 13,000 <br />Corporal . . . . . . . <br />. The police officer <br />shall obtain his second service year on the next succeeding first <br />day of January and shall advance one service year on each successive <br />first day of January until he attains the maximum salary for the <br />particular rank he may hold. <br />SECTION 2. Any individual officer who through this <br />ordinance would receive less base salary during the year 1977 than <br />he did during the year 1976 for the same rank may be compensated at <br />a level commensurate with the 1976 level. <br />SECTION 3. In addition to the foregoing annual pay, <br />the officers and members of the Police Department shall receive <br />compensation for extra duty and special performance as follows: <br />(a) For time spent in court appearances and overtime <br />work as determined by the Chief of Police, $5.00 per hour. A police <br />officer requested to work overtime by the Police Chief or his designee <br />is automatically paid the $5.00 per hour. <br />
