SOUTH BEND PUBLIC UTILITIES
224 North Main Street
John F. Stancati
Director of Utilities
CITY of SOUTH BEND
PETER I NEMETH, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
Members of the Common Council
441 County /City Building
South Bend, IN 46601
Subject: Request for Two Additional Stalls to be Built
onto the Existing Garage
Dear Councilmen:
(219) 284 -9322
October 18, 1977
This additional area is needed to store the two Vactors which we now own.
From November 1 to March 15 it is necessary to store this equipment in a
heated garage. We do use it when the weather is above freezing. After
they are used they are returned to a warm garage and we are assured that
they will be ready to use whenever necessary, weather permitting.
The storage of equipment requires about four stalls of our existing garage.
By using only the existing garage for the Vactors and heavy equipment pieces,
it makes it almost impossible to keep other equipment that is to be serviced
inside overnight. When it is snowing, there is time lost waiting for the
equipment to be serviced to thaw out enough to work on.
By putting in two additional stalls, it will allow us to keep one backhoe
and one loader inside during the winter months. This is the area that the
Vactors have occupied in the past. It is very important that on a cold
morning (or night) we have a loader or backhoe ready for any type of
emergency. Outside storage does not permit this.
Very truly yours,
Morgalti" P e c, Manager
Bureau of Sanitation
