Patrick M. McMahon, P.E.
Director, Public Works
CITY of SOUTH BEND
PETER J. NEMETH, Mayor
COUNTY -CITY BUILDING SOUTH BEND, INDIANA 46601
August 3, 1977
Members of the
441 County /City
South Bend, IN
Common Council
Building
46601
Dear Councilmen:
219/284 -9251
The attached ordinance provides for the transferring of $20,000 from a
surplus account within the MVH Fund (Account No. 120.0, Salaries and
Wages, Temporary) to Account No. 252.1, Equipment Modification ($7,000)
and Account No. 430.0, Repair Parts ($13,000).
This transfer is being requested in order to make available sufficient
funds to address equipment modification and repair items required through
the balance of 1977. These monies will be disbursed at the direction of
Mr. James Meehan, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance.
Expenditures for these activities are normally funded through Mr. Meehan's
budget. Mr. Meehan's budget for 1977, however, has proven to be insuf-
ficient to address current and anticinatiad d mandc
When preparing the yearly budget, a certain volume of repair work is
anticipated, based upon past experience and the current status of the
Street Department's equipment. The actual volume and nature of repairs
made to the Street Department's fleet is obviously a function.of the
seasonal weather pattern. The severe weather which we experienced last
winter not only increased the volume of repair work required to the Street
Department fleet, but also necessitated that many of the more routine and
anticipated repairs be scheduled into early spring, due to the increased
strain placed upon this equipment.
